Devil's Tear
Busy 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM Found on Google Maps 1 Oct 2026
Devil's Tear is a dramatic coastal headland situated on the rugged southwestern limestone bluffs of Nusa Lembongan. Massive Indian Ocean swells slam into the undercut cliffs and submerged hollow caves, compressing air and seawater before erupting into colossal geysers of roaring white spray. As the sun descends in the late afternoon, golden light catches the airborne mist to create vibrant, persistent rainbows hovering over the surging turquoise water. A paved perimeter walkway allows travelers to observe the raw oceanic power and surrounding tidal rock pools from a safe vantage point along the cliff top.
Insider tips
-
01
Strict Rogue Wave Caution. Never step down onto the lower wet rock shelves or cross the safety barriers for photos; unexpected rogue swell surges frequently sweep over the ledges and can pull spectators into dangerous churning water.
-
02
Late Afternoon Rainbows. Visit between 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM when the setting sun drops to an angle that illuminates the airborne sea spray, generating vibrant, natural rainbows over the sea chasm.
-
03
Tide Pool Reflections. Walk just 50 meters north of the main blowhole at sunset to find calm limestone shelf pools that act as natural mirrors reflecting the orange and purple evening sky.
