Broken Beach
Busy 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM Found on Google Maps 1 Oct 2026
Broken Beach, locally known as Pasih Uug, is a dramatic coastal geological formation situated on the rugged southwestern tip of Nusa Penida. The site features a massive circular collapsed sea cave creating an enclosed cove where turquoise Indian Ocean waves surge through an imposing natural rock archway. While sheer vertical limestone cliffs prevent visitors from descending to swim, a scenic perimeter path allows travelers to walk completely around the rim for breathtaking aerial perspectives. On calm days, giant manta rays and sea turtles can frequently be spotted swimming through the crystal-clear water below the arch.
Insider tips
-
01
Manta Spotting from Above. Walk across the natural limestone bridge and look directly down into the azure bay, where giant manta rays and sea turtles frequently glide through the clear water.
-
02
Beat the Day-Trip Rush. Nusa Penida tour vans arrive in droves between 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM; visit before 9:00 AM or after 3:30 PM for unobstructed views and cooler walking conditions.
-
03
Drone Caution. Coastal gusts around the cliff rim are strong and unpredictable, so maintain a safe altitude and avoid flying too close to the rock arch where sea spray can cause interference.
