Angel's Billabong is a remarkable natural tidal pool carved into the rugged limestone coast of southwestern Nusa Penida, located right next to Broken Beach. Formed where a freshwater river meets the Indian Ocean, the emerald-hued rock pool features crystal-clear water resting atop an intricate floor of volcanic rock and vibrant green algae. During low tide, the pool resembles a serene natural infinity pool with calm waters reflecting the sky against the dark limestone cliffs. However, as the tide turns, large oceanic swells crash violently over the seaward barrier, reminding visitors of the raw and powerful nature of the open ocean.

Insider tips

  1. 01

Strict High-Tide Hazard. Never climb down into the pool during high tide or high swell; powerful rogue waves frequently break over the cliff edge and can sweep swimmers out into the ocean.

  2. 02

Safest Photo Angle. The most stunning and safe photographs are taken from the elevated limestone cliffs looking down into the pool, capturing the vivid contrast between the emerald estuary and deep blue sea.

  3. 03

Combined Itinerary. Since Angel's Billabong and Broken Beach share the same parking grounds, walk the 5-minute coastal trail between them to easily experience both natural wonders in one trip.

Good to know

Retribution & Parking
Entry is covered under the Nusa Penida island tourist retribution fee; parking costs Rp 5,000 for scooters and Rp 10,000 for tour vehicles.
Terrain Advisory
The limestone cliffs around the pool are sharp and uneven with loose gravel; wear closed-toe sneakers or strapped hiking sandals rather than loose flip-flops.
