Bebek Tepi Sawah Restaurant & Villa is a prestigious cultural dining landmark established in 1999 by Balinese artist and entrepreneur I Nyoman Sumartha along Jalan Raya Goa Gajah in Peliatan, Ubud. Nestled beside picturesque, working emerald rice paddies, the expansive compound seamlessly integrates traditional Balinese architecture, tranquil lotus ponds, tropical landscaped gardens, and an adjacent fine-art gallery. The restaurant is celebrated for its signature Bebek Goreng Tepi Sawah—crisp deep-fried duck seasoned with traditional Balinese spices, resulting in wonderfully crunchy skin and tender, succulent meat. Served with steamed white rice, green bean lawar, fresh vegetable garnish, and a vibrant trio of signature sambals (Sambal Matah, Sambal Mbe, and Sambal Ulek), it remains an essential Ubud dining ritual.

Insider tips

  1. 01

Request a Private Ricefield Pavilion. When booking or arriving, ask for a private thatched pavilion (bale) located directly on the edge of the rice fields to enjoy peaceful rural vistas and natural breeze while dining.

  2. 02

Compare Fried and Grilled Duck. If visiting as a couple or group, order one Bebek Goreng (crispy fried duck) and one Bebek Bakar (sweet soy and Balinese bumbu charcoal-grilled duck) to experience both contrasting textures and flavors.

  3. 03

Visit the On-Site Art Gallery. After your meal, stroll through the adjoining Sumartha Art Gallery and garden pavilions to view an exquisite collection of traditional and modern Balinese oil paintings and stone carvings.
