Amandari
$$$ Busy 24 Hours Found on Google Maps 2 Oct 2026
Established in 1989 as Aman's second property globally and its first in Bali, Amandari ("Peaceful Spirits") is a legendary luxury sanctuary perched above the deep gorge of the sacred Ayung River in Kedewatan, Ubud. Designed by visionary Australian architect Peter Muller, Amandari pioneered the concept of luxury resorts reflecting authentic local vernacular architecture, serving as the blueprint for tropical resort design worldwide. The property is designed precisely to mirror a traditional Balinese village (banjar), with winding pathways flanked by river-stone and paras volcanic stone walls, open-air pavilions crowned with hand-woven alang-alang thatched roofs, and an open-sided wantilan (community meeting hall) lobby. The resort comprises 30 freestanding walled suites and villas with marble outdoor sunken bathtubs and private courtyard gardens, some featuring private swimming pools. An ancient 7th-century Hindu stone tiger shrine (Pura Puncak Swangi) sits preserved along the sacred pilgrimage path that passes through the grounds down to the Ayung River. The resort features a signature curved green-tiled infinity pool inspired by cascading rice terraces, Amandari Spa, and The Restaurant serving farm-fresh Indonesian and Western cuisine.
