Uluwatu Temple
$$ Found on Google Maps 5 Oct 2026
Pura Luhur Uluwatu is one of Bali's six foundational directional temples (Sad Kahyangan), perched magnificently atop a sheer 70-meter limestone cliff plunging directly into the Indian Ocean. Dedicated to Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa in his manifestation as Rudra, the sacred 11th-century sea temple is revered for shielding the island from malevolent southwestern maritime spirits. Every evening, the temple's clifftop amphitheater hosts world-famous Kecak and Fire Dance performances set against the setting sun. A paved stone walkway winds along the rugged cliff rim, cutting through a coastal forest inhabited by a colony of free-roaming macaque monkeys.
