Ubud Palace, officially known as Puri Saren Agung, is the historic royal palace and cultural focal point situated in the very center of Ubud village. Constructed in the early 1800s during the reign of Ida Tjokorda Putu Kandel, the palace exemplifies classical Balinese architectural mastery with ornate stone carvings, split candi bentar gateways, and lush inner courtyards. While sections of the compound remain the active private residence of the Ubud royal family, the outer courtyards are open to the public daily. Every evening, the palace's central brick courtyard transforms into the island's most celebrated stage for traditional Legong, Barong, and Gamelan dance performances.
