Padang Padang Beach
Busy 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM Found on Google Maps 1 Oct 2026
Padang Padang Beach, known locally as Pantai Labuan Sait, is a world-famous cove sheltered by dramatic limestone cliffs on the western coast of the Bukit Peninsula. Visitors access the beach through an extraordinary natural rock crevice, descending a narrow flight of concrete steps carved through a limestone cavern where native monkeys rest. At the bottom lies a 100-meter crescent of soft white sand and clear turquoise waters, bordered by giant mossy boulders. Made globally famous by the film Eat Pray Love and the annual Rip Curl Cup surf competition, it is equally cherished by casual swimmers and world-class reef surfers.
Insider tips
-
01
Tide-Dependent Swimming. Always check the tide chart before visiting; low tide exposes rocky reef shallows, while mid-to-high tide creates perfect calm conditions for swimming in the cove.
-
02
Monkey Precautions on Stairs. The long-tailed macaques residing in the rock staircase will snatch loose sunglasses, snacks, and water bottles; keep all belongings secured inside your bag.
-
03
Early Morning Beach Space. The sandy strip is relatively small and fills up rapidly by midday; arrive before 9:30 AM to find an uncrowded spot on the sand and enjoy the calm water.
