Mangrove Forest Lembongan
Busy 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM Found on Google Maps 9 Oct 2026
The Mangrove Forest of Nusa Lembongan is a vast, protected coastal wetland ecosystem blanketing more than 200 hectares across the island's northeastern tip. This vital ecological sanctuary protects the island from storm surges and coastal erosion while providing a thriving nursery for tropical fish, crabs, and diverse migratory bird species. Visitors can explore the serene interior of the forest on traditional, silent flat-bottom wooden canoes propelled by local boatmen using long bamboo poles through narrow mangrove tunnels. The winding waterway ultimately opens onto a shallow turquoise lagoon overlooking the open ocean, delivering a peaceful nature escape far from motorized traffic.
Insider tips
-
01
Timing the Tide. Mangrove canoe tours require high to mid-tide to navigate the canals; during dead low tide, water levels drop too low and boats can run aground in the mud.
-
02
Kayaking or Stand-Up Paddleboarding. In addition to guided punt boat tours, you can rent a single or double kayak or stand-up paddleboard to explore the mangrove waterways at your own pace.
-
03
Morning Birdwatching. Take an early morning tour around 8:00 AM for the quietest atmosphere, cooler temperatures, and the greatest chances of spotting kingfishers and herons.
