Busy 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM Found on Google Maps 1 Oct 2026
Balangan Beach is a celebrated half-kilometer expanse of soft golden sand located on the northern coast of the Bukit Peninsula in Pecatu, South Kuta. Sheltered by soaring white limestone cliffs and a picturesque grove of coastal coconut palms, the beach is globally renowned for its world-class, high-speed left-hand reef break that produces peeling barrels across various tide stages. The beachfront is lined with traditional two-story rustic wooden surf warungs built on stilts against the seawall, preserving an authentic, nostalgic ambiance reminiscent of 1980s Bali surf exploration. Offering golden sunsets, tidal rock pools, and expansive vistas of the Bukit coastline, it remains a beloved sanctuary for surfers and travelers alike.
Insider tips
-
01
Balangan Cliff Viewpoint. Walk up to the elevated northern limestone headland for the iconic panoramic photo overlooking the curving bay, crashing turquoise waves, and the sunset glowing over the Indian Ocean.
-
02
Surf Tides & Reef Caution. The fast left-hander breaks over a sharp, shallow volcanic coral reef; low tide is hollow and recommended strictly for advanced surfers, while mid-to-high tide offers more forgiving walls for intermediate riders.
-
03
Authentic Warung Lounging. Bypass expensive tourist venues and relax on the open upper balconies of rustic timber warungs (such as Froggy Warung or Kelly's) with an ice-cold Bintang and freshly cooked Nasi Goreng right above the high-tide line.
