Pura Kehen is a majestic 11th-century royal state temple of the Bangli Kingdom, terraced into the forested slopes of northern Bangli. Often described as a miniature version of Mother Temple Besakih, visitors ascend a dramatic flight of 38 stone steps flanked by statues from the Ramayana epic to enter the grand candi bentar split gateway. The inner sanctuary courtyard features an ancient 400-year-old sacred banyan tree with an embedded wooden kulkul bell tower, alongside a magnificent 11-tiered meru dedicated to the supreme Hindu deities.
