Peguyangan Waterfall is an adventurous coastal attraction and sacred pilgrimage site clinging to the sheer limestone cliffs of southwestern Nusa Penida. Visitors descend an iconic, vertigo-inducing blue metal staircase of over 700 steps bolted directly into the vertical cliff face high above the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean. At the base lies a sacred natural freshwater spring where crystal-clear spring water cascades over coastal boulders directly into the churning sea. The site is home to the sacred Pura Segara Kidul temple, where Balinese pilgrims partake in ritual purification baths within natural cliffside rock pools.

Insider tips

  1. 01

Physical Stamina Required. The return hike up the 700+ steep blue steps in tropical heat is strenuous; pace yourself, take breaks at the stair landings, and bring plenty of drinking water.

  2. 02

Mind the Big Waves. The natural infinity pool at the bottom sits right on the edge of the ocean ledge; never enter the outer rock pool during high tide or heavy swells when rogue waves wash over the rocks.

  3. 03

Respect the Holy Site. Because the water source and temple are deeply sacred, travelers must treat the water spouts with respect; three of the lower spouts are designated specifically for Hindu cleansing rituals.

Good to know

Entry & Sarong Rental
Entry is Rp 10,000 per person; because the site is an active Hindu temple, wearing a temple sarong and sash is mandatory (available for rent at the top ticket booth for Rp 10,000).
Safety & Dress Code
Wear grippy walking shoes for the metal stairs (avoid flip-flops); women who are menstruating are requested to respect Balinese religious custom by not entering temple grounds.
