Pantai Pererenan

Directions →

Pantai Pererenan is a picturesque black volcanic sand beach located along the coast of Pererenan village, directly west of Canggu's Echo Beach across a natural river mouth. The coastline is defined by its dramatic crashing swells, shimmering mineral-rich dark sand, and the striking 12-meter statue of Gajah Mina—a mythical Hindu creature that is half-elephant and half-fish—perched majestically on a seawall rock jetty. Celebrated in the global surfing community for its fast, powerful reef and rivermouth breaks, it attracts intermediate and advanced wave riders from around the globe. While offering world-class surf, Pererenan preserves a distinctly quieter, more authentic Balinese village charm compared to its busier neighboring beaches.

Insider tips

  1. 01

Photographing the Gajah Mina Monument. Stroll out along the stone groyne during late afternoon to capture stunning photographs of the towering Gajah Mina statue silhouetted against glowing orange sunset skies and ocean sea mist.

  2. 02

Surf Tide Dynamics. Pererenan features punchy left and right reef peaks that work best at mid-to-high tide; low tide exposes shallow volcanic coral heads that can be hazardous for beginner surfers.

  3. 03

Sunset Strolls & Horse Riding. The wide expanses of firm, dark sand are ideal for sunset walks; local stables frequently lead scenic horseback riding tours along the water's edge as the sun dips below the horizon.

Beach entry is completely free; managed parking at the beachfront plaza costs Rp 2,000 for motorbikes and Rp 5,000 for cars.
Swimming Precautions
