Menjangan Island
Busy 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM Found on Google Maps 1 Oct 2026
Menjangan Island is an uninhabited marine sanctuary located within the protected boundaries of West Bali National Park off the island's northwest tip. Renowned as Bali's premier scuba diving and snorkeling destination, the island is surrounded by crystalline waters boasting up to 50-meter visibility and vibrant vertical coral walls plunging down 60 meters. The island is named after the native Javan rusa deer (menjangan) that roam its powdery white-sand beaches and can often be seen swimming in the calm turquoise shallows. Its sheltered position in the Bali Sea protects fragile coral gardens and diverse marine life, including sea turtles, reef sharks, and schools of tropical fish.
Insider tips
-
01
Snorkel the Drop-Off Walls. Head to the northeastern and western reef walls, where dramatic vertical drop-offs offer up to 30 to 50-meter visibility and shelter sea turtles, reef sharks, and magnificent gorgonian sea fans.
-
02
Spot the Beachside Deer. Keep an eye out for the island's namesake Javan rusa deer resting on the white-sand shoreline or wading into the shallows near the main boat dock and Pura Segara Giri Dharma Kencana.
-
03
Eco-Friendly Sun Protection. Menjangan is a strictly protected national marine park; wear long-sleeve UV rashguards or certified mineral reef-safe sunscreen to avoid damaging the delicate coral ecosystem.
