Medewi Beach is a tranquil, laid-back coastal haven located in Pekutatan within Bali's western Jembrana Regency. Internationally celebrated in the global surf community, it boasts the longest left-hand point break in Bali, offering smooth, rolling rides across a rocky boulder reef that can extend for hundreds of meters. The coastline features glistening dark volcanic sand interspersed with rounded river cobblestones, lined with traditional jukung outrigger canoes resting under coconut palms. Far removed from the crowded southern resort hubs, the area preserves an authentic fishing village atmosphere characterized by peaceful sunsets and friendly seaside warungs.

Insider tips

  1. 01

Reef Booties are Essential. The rivermouth point break and shoreline are composed of smooth cobblestones and sharp, sea-urchin-encrusted rocks; wear rubber reef booties to protect your feet when paddling in and out.

  2. 02

Optimal Tide & Season. The famous left-hander works best on mid-to-high tide with dry-season northeast trade winds; during extreme low tide, the wave breaks in very shallow water over exposed boulders.

  3. 03

Post-Surf Warung Snacks. After surfing, visit the local beachfront warungs along the headland for freshly fried banana fritters (pisang goreng) served with condensed milk and fresh young coconuts.
