Green Bowl Beach (Pantai Green Bowl) is a dramatic, secluded limestone cove hidden at the base of soaring cliffs in Ungasan on the southernmost rim of Bali's Bukit Peninsula. Formerly known as Bali Cliff Beach, the cove earned its name from the emerald-green algae-carpeted reef that emerges during low tide, resembling a massive green bowl when viewed from the heights. Reaching this hidden shoreline requires descending a steep, winding concrete staircase of over 320 steps through coastal vegetation populated by native macaque monkeys. At the bottom lies a pristine 30-meter crescent of soft golden sand flanked by two cavernous limestone sea caves, offering cool natural shade and front-row access to a powerful, world-class right-hand reef surf break.

Insider tips

  1. 01

Tide Timing is Essential. Check tide charts and visit exclusively during low to mid tide; at high tide, the surging ocean completely engulfs the narrow sandy strip right up to the cliff face.

  2. 02

Explore Natural Sea Caves. Escape the intense midday tropical sun by resting inside the cavernous limestone caves, where you can watch resting fruit bats tucked high into rock crevices.

  3. 03

Pace the Staircase Ascent. The descent is swift, but climbing back up the 320+ steep steps under the tropical heat requires stamina; carry plenty of bottled water and pause at shaded stair landings.

Good to know

Admission & Parking
Entrance ticket is Rp 5,000 per person; parking near Pura Batu Pageh costs Rp 2,000 for motorbikes and Rp 5,000 for cars; secure loose items from curious parking lot monkeys.
Safety & Amenities
No warungs or vendors exist on the sand, so bring all water, snacks, and trash bags back up; strong offshore currents and shallow coral reefs make swimming suitable only for confident swimmers at low tide.
