Gitgit Waterfall is an iconic 35-meter cascade situated within the lush mountain rainforest of Sukasada in northern Bali's Buleleng Regency. Fed by natural highland springs, the powerful torrent plunges through a narrow jungle gorge framed by clove trees, coffee plantations, and wild tropical ferns. A paved canyon trail leads visitors past smaller sister cascades and tier pools, where cool mountain waters create a refreshing swimming basin at the base. As one of the island's earliest recognized natural attractions, it offers a dramatic introduction to Bali's cooler, misty northern highlands.

Insider tips

  1. 01

Avoid Touts at the Parking Lot. Local youths at the highway parking lot often aggressively claim that a local guide is mandatory; the paved pathway is direct and straightforward with clear signs, and no guide is legally required.

  2. 02

Explore Beyond the Main Drop. Gitgit is actually a network of falls; continue walking past the main 35-meter cascade along the canyon trail to discover the less-crowded Campuhan Twin Falls and Story Waterfall.

  3. 03

Early Morning Lighting. Arrive between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM before tour buses en route between Bedugul and Lovina arrive, when soft morning light rays filter through the jungle mist.
