Blue Lagoon is a picturesque, sheltered white-sand bay tucked just northeast of the ferry port town of Padangbai on Bali's eastern coastline. Flanked by steep coastal cliffs and palm trees, the cove is celebrated for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and easily accessible shallow coral gardens starting just meters from the shoreline. The reef is a biodiversity hotspot teeming with vibrant marine life, including clownfish, blue-spotted rays, cuttlefish, moray eels, and occasional green sea turtles. The beach offers a tranquil atmosphere with rustic cafes perched above the high-tide line, making it a favorite day trip for snorkelers and divers alike.

Insider tips

  1. 01

Snorkel at Low-to-Mid Tide. Snorkel during mid-tide when water clarity is optimal and waves are mild; during high tide or heavy south swells, shore breaks can make entering over the rocky reef tricky.

  2. 02

Rent Gear from Shore Cafes. If you do not have your own equipment, beachfront warungs rent masks, snorkels, and fins for around Rp 50,000, and will let you leave your belongings safely while you swim.

  3. 03

Explore the Outer Reef Wall. Strong swimmers and guided divers should venture out towards the drop-off reef wall where larger pelagics, bumphead parrotfish, and cleaner shrimp stations thrive.
